L 98 to be resubmitted; future citizenship criteria await agreement

Authority announcement:Udlændinge- og Integrationsministeriet

Planned resubmission · proposed future screening

The ministry plans to resubmit naturalisation bill L 98 after checking whether applicants still meet the conditions. Introduction is expected in the first half of 2027. The government also seeks a screening model for undemocratic views within a future citizenship agreement. Applicants previously included in L 98 will receive a letter. Other naturalisation cases still await clarification of the conditions; the future agreement is intended to cover applicants outside L 98.

What this means for your case

The bill will also include certain stateless people born in Denmark and people born outside marriage after 11 October 1993 to a foreign mother and a Danish father whose cases the ministry has been processing. Resubmission is neither enactment nor a guarantee of citizenship. Screening is a future initiative, not a current requirement, and the timetable is an expectation. The ministry cannot yet provide further details about pending cases by phone or in writing.
